Partnership Announcement:

The U.S. Forest Service & The Next 100 Coalition

In 2021, The Next 100 Coalition entered into a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Forest Service’ Washington D.C. National Office of Recreation, Heritage & Volunteer Resources to assist them in fostering relationships between the US Forest Service and leaders from historically marginalized communities. We have a common goal of increasing participation, stewardship, enjoyment, and connection to public lands, particularly national forests, by all communities.

Background:

The Forest Service is a land and resource management agency responsible for providing national leadership in forestry stewardship, conservation and research. As part of this leadership, the Forest Service is committed to promoting and providing equitable outdoor recreation program delivery. Next 100 Coalition and the Forest Service continue to set goals that focus on fostering impactful and lasting relationships with historically marginalized communities working together to develop innovative solutions to bring agency partners, government entities, education, and community leadership together. In these collaborative spaces, we identify actions that would enhance public engagement and equitable programming for all communities to enjoy and be stewards of our national forests

2024 Partnership Initiative

The Next 100 Coalition, in collaboration with the USDA Forest Service, invites eligible organizations to submit proposals for the National Forest Community Recreation Fund. The Fund aims to increase access to outdoor recreation and enjoyment of national forests while fostering relationships between community groups and the Forest Service. By prioritizing at least 60% of funds distributed towards work in Justice40 communities, this initiative is reflective of the dedication by the Forest Service to ensuring that outdoor recreation opportunities and stewardship pathways are accessible to all communities.
